The stone speaks to me by its color and sound. I look at the color and characteristics of the stone, I then tap it to listen for a ringing sound. If it rings, then the stone is solid. I interpret the ringing as singing, hence the name of my studio, Singing Stone Studio."
Cliff Fragua is a native Pueblo sculptor who has chosen to work in stone because is represents a combination of the basic elements of the earth.
Bronzesmith uses the stone sculpture to create a silicon rubber mold to make a bronze sculpture of Fraguas favorite pieces.
Since the beginning of sculpting in 1974, Cliff has received many awards and recognition for his work.
His most recent honor was to be chosen by the state of New Mexico to create a seven foot Tennessee marble sculpture of Pope for the National Statuary Hall in Washington, D.C. This was installed in 2005.
Bronzesmith produces a maquette size of this statue for the New Mexico Statuary Foundation.
